Variables Tab
The Variables tab allows you to define the interaction's variables, which are then used to create scoring assertions in the Rubric Editor (refer to Creating a Standard Rubric). The tools and features available vary by interaction type, but there are two basic Variables tab formats:
- Simple Variables Tab: Requires you to define variables by specifying sample student responses via a preview of the interaction. Most interaction types use this format.
- Advanced Variables Tab: Requires you to create object sets and bind variables based on various properties. Only Equation, standard Grid, Custom Hot Text, Simulation, and legacy Table Input interaction editors use this format.
Each interaction type uses one of these two formats, with one exception. The Natural Language interaction type (edit only), a sub-type of Text Entry, does not use either format, but instead requires you to define variables in an external application (refer to Natural Language (Edit Only)).
Note that you can combine machine- and hand-scored interactions in a single hybrid-scored item.
